Gilded began as a tool built for one small jewellery buying and selling business. The problem was simple to describe and awkward to solve: a safe full of pieces, each with a purchase price, a weight and a listing somewhere – and no quick way to tell whether any given item was worth more on eBay or at the refiner.

Spreadsheets got close. They always do. But a spreadsheet doesn't know that a buyer's premium needs to stay separate from the hammer price, or that a sold item's profit should never change just because eBay adjusted its fees. Once the scrap-or-sell question was answered properly – weight, purity, spot price, refiner's cut, channel fees, every time – the tool stopped being a side project.

So we gave it a name and a home. Gilded is now being built as a proper cloud product, hosted in Australia on AWS, with every customer's data kept separate on one well-run platform rather than a thousand fragile installs.

The plan stays deliberately focused: do the jobs a jewellery business actually has, do the arithmetic honestly, and stay out of the way. Maker is for jewellers who make their own pieces, Trader is for those who buy and sell, and Pro is for businesses that do both – with your accounting file, your eBay account and a live precious-metals feed connected.
